Using other devices with a Samsung TV.

When you connect an external device to a TV it won’t necessarily just work. Because modern TV’s have the capability of having multiple items connected at the same time sometimes it is necessary to tell the TV exactly what you want it to display.

‘A & B’ Range input select
Press the ‘Source’ button to toggle through the list of available inputs, the name will appear in the top corner of the screen as you move through each one, stop when you reach the input that your device is connected too. Below are a few examples of common devices for each available input.

TV – This is for Digital and Analogue TV, press the ‘TV/DTV’ button to switch between the two. If you have a VCR player or a Satellite box connected with an RF cable then select Analogue and turn to channel 6.
Ext.1 (Video & Audio) – Use this input for a device connected via SCART to the SCART socket labelled ‘Ext 1’ on the back of the TV. Common devices would be a VCR, DVD Player/Recorder, Set-Top Box, A non HD Satellite or Cable Box and older Games Consoles.
Ext.2 (Video & Audio)– This is the same as Ext.1 except the device would be connected to the SCART socket labelled ‘Ext 2’ on the back of the TV.
AV (Video & Audio) – A device connected via the Red, White and Yellow sockets on the side of the TV. This could be a Digital Camera/Camcorder, a Games Console or maybe a DVD player.
S-Video (Video only) – A device connected to the S-Video socket on the side of the TV. The most common use for this socket is to connect a PC or Laptop to the TV so it can be used as a display.

Component (Video Only) – A device connected via the Component port on the side of the TV. The most common use of this would be from a PC with a compatible graphics card or a Camcorder.
PC (Video Only) – This port is used to connect a PC to the TV using a VGA Cable (supplied separately) so the TV can be used as a computer monitor.
HDMI 1,2 & 3 (Sound & Audio) – Any device connected to the TV via a HDMI cable. HDMI is for high definition devices such as Sky HD, Virgin HD, BluRay Players, Freesat, Freeview HD and modern Games Consoles such as the XBox 360 and Playstation 3.
